Person hit by train on Edinburgh line as emergency services race to scene

Mercy crews were scrambled to the railway between the capital and Newcastle

A person has been struck by a train on a major Edinburgh rail line. Emergency services raced to the scene between the capital and Newcastle after the alarm was raised on Saturday morning.

The train operator advised passengers to defer their journey until later today and apologised for the disruption caused. It's understood the line is now clear and disruption has now ended. "There are a number of cancellations on this part of our route this morning and while we are working to source rail replacement, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate all of our customers on bus replacement services. If your journey is delayed by more than 30 minutes, you are entitled to claim compensation against the cost of your ticket under our Delay Repay scheme.
