Some of the creative team behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians discuss bringing Rick Riordan's work to life authentically in the new Disney+ series.
Summary Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a new Disney+ series that will bring Rick Riordan's beloved fantasy stories to the small screen. Premiering later this year, the show will explore the adventures of Percy and his friends Grover and Annabeth as they adjust to their powers and come face to face with the gods.
Screen Rant spoke to showrunners and executive producers Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz and director and executive producer James Bobin recently at New York Comic-Con to discuss working with Riordan, translating his works to the screen, and creating Percy Jackson and the Olympians with fans in mind. Dan Shotz: I feel like kids and adults have come to these books for varying reasons; there's so many different ways for you to get into the story as a parent, as a child, someone who feels different, someone who feels like an outsider. So the show needed to do all of those things. And so anybody watching it could come into it with a different - with whatever they were bringing to it. And that was necessary in every step of the way as we built this.
James Bobin: At the panel you can tell that all of us love this stuff and we really have for a long time. And so I feel like it's a thing we put together very carefully with great thought. It wasn't something we just chucked together, it took us a long time to make this show. And of course having Rick around was super helpful because he's like a walking encyclopedia of this stuff. So it's very helpful and he's a lovely bloke, so it's really nice to have him around.
