A city in Pennsylvania is the third word in the U.S. for people with allergies.

— which leveraged data based on daily pollen counts and from sources such as the National Allergy Bureau — ranked Scranton as the third overall top Allergy Capital, coming in only behind Dallas, Texas and Wichita, Kansas .

In breaking down allergies by tree, grass, and weed pollen, Scranton residents appear to be the second most plagued by the latter two and the 11th for the former. Allentown also ranked relatively high on the grass pollen list .last year, its finding placed Scranton in the number one spot. This means that things have gotten a bit better for allergy sufferers in the area, although taking home the bronze still means there’s a significant amount of sneezing occurring.

“More than 100 million Americans are affected by various types of allergies every year,” reads the 2023 report. “People with allergies need to know what allergens trigger their symptoms, find ways to reduce their exposure to those allergens, and have access to the right treatments for their needs.” AAFA recommends taking precautionary measures such as checking daily pollen forecasts and closing your windows during peak pollen times.
