The award, part of the organization’s annual Woman of Excellence event, is given to an exemplary woman whose efforts set a standard for a lifetime commitment to the welfare of central Pa. and its residents.

A ceremony honoring all this year’s Women of Excellence nominees will be take place today at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, 325 University Dr., Hershey. Registration for the event is closed. Twenty-eight women will be recognized this year, including Davis.

The nominees must: participate actively in the community as mentors, role models and volunteers; actively serve on the boards or committees of various nonprofits and organizations; demonstrate integrity, strength of character and leadership; raise and donate money to important causes; and embrace and support the vision and mission of the YWCA.

“Joyce has spent a lifetime bringing people together in constructive public conversations. Her superpower is an ability to forge agreements and find solutions across today’s wide social divides,” said Cate Barron, president of Pa. Media Group, PennLive’s parent company. “She has the courage and conviction to tackle the most difficult subjects. And she does so with wisdom, grace and compassion.”

“What an honor it is to be counted in the midst of such an inspiring group of women,” Davis said via email. “Our community should be encouraged and inspired at the work of so many dedicated women right here in central Pennsylvania.” Davis joined the PennLive staff in March 2019. She is veteran journalist, author, communications professional and public speaker who has lived and worked around the globe for some of the most respected news organizations in the world, including Radio Free Europe and NPR.
