From Saquon Barkley and Miles Sanders to Pat Freiermuth and Jahan Dotson, Penn State has plenty of players worth considering in fantasy football.
Fantasy outlook:
Godwin bounced back nicely last season after suffering a torn ACL at the tail end of the 2021 campaign. He was the No. 15 wide receiver in PPR, logging 104 catches and 1,023 receiving yards, thanks in large part to Tampa Bay’s pass-happy offense. Without Tom Brady at quarterback, Godwin’s fantasy outlook is murkier; Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask sure as heck isn’t Brady. But if you’re targeting a third receiver, you can certainly do worse than Godwin.
After missing five games in the middle of his rookie campaign, Dotson’s final five games were promising: 35 targets, 21 catches, 344 yards and three touchdowns. It’s a small sample size, and Washington’s quarterback play is a concern with Sam Howell taking over. But anyone who watched Dotson at Penn State knows what he’s capable of. In the ninth or 10th round, he’s deserving of a look.
Gesicki needed a change of scenery after a rough final year with the Dolphins. The freakishly athletic tight end, who had 73 catches and 780 yards in 2021, took a backseat in Mike McDaniel’s offense. Gesicki had only 32 receptions for 362 yards, making him a fantasy non-factor. Now that he’s reunited with Bill O’Brien, there might be a path to him regaining fantasy relevance in New England.
