Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has friends in the presidential race.
The Alabama senator has been the center of controversy for months over his Pentagon abortion policy protest, but former Vice President Mike Pence said he supports the blockade."Sen. Tommy Tuberville is right, and the Pentagon is wrong," Pence said to cheers at the Pray Vote Stand conference in Washington.
Tuberville has made waves even among Republicans for holding up military promotions in the Senate over a Department of Defense abortion policy. But because the policy involves spending money, which under the Constitution is the domain of Congress, Tuberville retaliated by holding up military nominations. More than 300 promotions have been held up so far, which Democrats argue is hurting military readiness.
