I want to put this debate to rest. The only thing we should be thinking about is how to ensure these valuable employees are treated like the professionals they are so they give us their best work. Everything else should flow from that. Same with the opinion, straight out of the Eisenhower era, that humans are only productive when they’re sitting behind an office desk, supervised, their faces bleary under fluorescent light. As someone who’s been working from home for more than two decades, I find this notion highly offensive.Article content
Some people actually want to go back to the office at least some of the time, and of course they should do that. But for employees who vastly prefer being more productive from their home office, gosh — if they’re giving us their best work, why ruin that? Making sure we’re using expensive office space downtown should not be the primary factor. Neither is the desire to prop up downtown businesses that have been struggling since 2020.
Some of those buildings can be converted into housing, classrooms or recreational facilities. The federal Liberal government has committed to
