Pearland City Council on Jan. 9 discusses options for a possible bond package to put before voters in May.In anticipation of a possible May bond election, Pearland City Council on Jan. 23 will consider the property tax rate implications of three potential bond packages ranging from $145 million to $171 million.

City Council adopted an amendment for the budget that adjusts for the shortfall. But city officials are studying long-term implications of the mistake, which was a factor in the firing of City Manager Clay Pearson in November. The projects would include improvements in older subdivisions such as Shady Crest and Creek View, upgrades to the street and drainage on Harkey Road from Broadway to Mary’s Creek, improvements to ditches and culverts in Longwood Park and work on Isla, North Galveston and Cheryl Drive.

Several council members spoke at Monday's meeting in support of including all 14 drainage projects in a potential bond package.Koza and other council members also talked about their personal preferences for additional projects. Koza described the Hughes Ranch Road project as necessary.

Proposed work at Independence Park, estimated at $11.3 million, would includes new landscaping, parking, restrooms, internal trails and sidewalk connections, a pavilion which could be used as an ice rink, a water spray park and expanded playground space.
