Moderate rainfall and isolated thunderstorms are also expected Thursday.

A pedestrian walks with an umbrella outside of the Chase Center in San Francisco, Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021.A storm system looming over the San Francisco Bay Area is forecast to bring moderate rainfall, isolated thunderstorms and the possibility of pea- to marble-sized hail on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

“For April, it’s stronger than normal,” said NWS meteorologist Drew Peterson. “But overall, we’re expecting beneficial impacts. It’s going to push the fire season back several weeks, and we’ll be picking up additional rain in this below-normal rainfall season. Every inch helps.” Most parts of the Bay Area have a 50% chance of seeing some small hail, which isn’t an unusual occurrence, explained Peterson.

“When we have storm systems move through the area in shoulder seasons — which occur during the start and end of rainy seasons in the fall and spring — that’s when we see more than any other time the potential for these showers or thunderstorms that can produce hail,” he said.
