The Patriots will not pursue Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, a source tells jeffphowe. On Monday at the NFL’s annual meetings, owner Robert Kraft said that Jackson was interested in joining New England.
The Patriots have revamped their offensive staff this offseason, reuniting with their top choice at coordinator, Bill O’Brien, to replace Matt Patricia. Jones and O’Brien overlapped for a couple weeks at Alabama in 2021 when the quarterback remained on campus for a couple of extra weeks to help O’Brien learn the Crimson Tide’s offense, so they’ve already built a foundation of mutual respect. To be clear, the Patriots aren’t out on Jackson because of Jones.
The Patriots need to determine this year whether Jones can get back on track with O’Brien. If he can, they can build out the rest of the roster around the young quarterback, who still has time on his rookie contract, and they can begin budgeting for his next contract. If not, a much more difficult quarterbacking decision looms in 2024.Get all-access to exclusive stories.
