Patrick Stewart has a touching reaction to the emotional scene between Jean-Luc and Q in the finale of Paramount+'s StarTrekPicard season 2.

Patrick Stewart has a touching reaction to the emotional scene between Jean-Luc and Q in Star Trek: Picard. First appearing as the character of Jean-Luc Picard over 30 years ago in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Stewart has since become a staple of the beloved franchise. After a number of years away from Star Trek, Picard is back once more in Star Trek: Picard, a Paramount+ series that first aired in 2020.

Star Trek: Picard season 2 has spent more time delving into Picard's past, which includes the return of Q , who was also first introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation as an omnipotent being capable of manipulating the universe. Although initially unveiled as an antagonist in the original show, Q has come to develop a sense of camaraderie with Picard, a theme that was further explored in the later episodes of Star Trek: Picard's second season.

"I watched the episode this morning at seven o’clock. And it had moved me as Episode 9 had done, but this time, much, much more. The scenes with John de Lancie were very intense, but because I think we both we have great respect for one another and the work that we do, there was always a feeling of vulnerability about the scenes with Q. Sometimes Q was tiresome and sometimes he was threatening, and there was a feeling he could be violent.

Q has undoubtedly been an important character throughout Stewart's run as Picard, be it in Star Trek: The Next Generation or Star Trek: Picard. Although presented as an adversary throughout most of the show, Q's final moments reveal the true respect and admiration he feels for Picard, finally resolving years' worth of tension.

While many associate Star Trek with William Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk, Stewart's Picard is an equally impactful and beloved character. With Star Trek: Picard providing the chance to wrap up loose story threads and provide meaningful goodbyes to a variety of Star Trek characters, Q's ending is certainly a highlight so far.
