The former Vancouver Canucks defenceman is enjoying life back with the Nashville Predators, albeit in a different role than before.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Going back to where it all started was an easy decision, in the end, for Dan Hamhuis.

Hamhuis broke into the NHL with the Predators in 2003-04 and signed a six-year contract with the Canucks as a free agent in 2010. With Roman Josi, Ryan Ellis, P.K. Subban and Mattias Ekholm all in the fold, ice time would be difficult to come by. And while he knew going in that he wouldn’t be playing as much, it still took some time getting used to the lesser role.

Between injuries and coaches’ decisions, the Predators’ third pairing has seen a fair bit of mixing and matching this season. But one face Hamhuis knew and has been happy to play alongside again is Yannick Weber. Thursday’s game against the Canucks is the third for Hamhuis since returning from a leg injury that had him on the injured list for a month.

“He’s such a calming presence out there,” Fabbro said. “How simple he keeps it. Doesn’t try to make a complicated play.”
