The trial of Pastor Timothy Omotoso and two co-accused for rape, human trafficking, and racketeering is nearing its end. After seven years, the Gqeberha High Court will hear closing arguments on Wednesday before delivering a final judgment. The case has seen numerous twists and turns, including judge recusals, bail applications, and legal team changes.
Omotoso and two co-accused Zukiswa Sitho and Lusanda Solani are facing a number of sex-related charges, involving young girls from his Jesus Dominion International Church.
Omotoso and two co-accused Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho are facing over 30 charges that include rape, human trafficking, and racketeering. Since Omotoso’s arrest in 2017, the case has seen many twists and turns, from judge recusals to multiple bail applications, applications for mistrials and kicking counsels off the case.
Omotoso and his two co-accused originally faced over 90 charges relating to rape, human trafficking and racketeering.The televangelist has been housed at the St Albans prison for the entirety of the trial and now presiding judge Irma Schoeman will hear closing arguments from both the state and the defence before she makes her final judgment.
