Pascal Siakam is tired (of losing). The Raptors star discusses his recent struggles and the upcoming trade deadline. Exclusive with ekoreen:
held a practice at the University of Utah, a campus surrounded in all directions by snow-capped mountains off in the distance. Siakam wasn’t taking in the sights. In his light green sweat suit, Siakam chatted with their bus driver, and then walked up to the driver’s seat, pressing the horn twice. He wanted the Raptors players, coaches and staffers holding up the departure — who, by the way, were still in the facility and couldn’t hear the honking — to get on the bus.
“There’s more stuff at home to recover,” said Siakam, who has played fewer than 35 minutes in four of his last 29 games. There are currently 26 qualified players35 minutes per game. “We make it work, we’ll figure it out. That’s why we’re professional players. Just try to take care of my body, anything I can do to help — not just relax. Normatec , cold tub, anything I can to recover. It’s harder on the road because we don’t have our facility.
began to thrive following slow starts, Siakam’s performance took a hit. Through four games on what is a make-or-break-up-the-team seven-game road trip for the Raptors — and that assumes “make” is much of an option — Siakam is shooting just 39 percent from the field, including a rough 8-for-26 shooting night last Friday in San Francisco.
