The 21 Ontario First Nations involved in the ongoing Robinson-Huron Treaty annuities case will be joining both the federal and provincial governments in asking the courts to extend an adjournment of court proceedings in order to allow the parties to continue settlement negotiations.
Court proceedings were initially adjourned for a two-week period earlier this month to allow all parties to come to the table for settlement discussions, which were to be mediated by former Truth and Reconciliation Commission chair Murray Sinclair. The former senator has since stepped away from his role due to health reasons.
