Some drivers are driving 'recklessly' along the major road and have been urged to use caution
A part of the A52 is expected remain closed in both directions for "several days" following Storm Babet. Derby City Council says the A52 between the Wyvern Centre and the Pentagon Island is too flooded to be used by traffic.
Charlie Edward, Derby City Council head of emergency planning, said: “In some places the water is up to 13 feet deep and I cannot stress enough that, if a road is closed, it is because it is impassable. “We have people working in the area and National Grid are trying to reconnect power to businesses in the Chequers Road area and so drivers on the A52 are putting these people at risk. “We are asking people – especially going into next week – to be patient and allow more time for their journeys.”
A major incident has been declared for the county by Nottinghamshire and Nottingham Local Resilience Forum. Nottingham City Council said in a statement: "Record river levels on the River Derwent are likely to lead to further peaks in water levels along the Trent Valley over the next 24 to 48 hours causing further risk of flooding in communities along the Trent Valley. This will likely lead to risk of flooding to properties and roads.
