Residents of Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills will be faced with a Parma City Schools levy renewal on the fall ballot.

“It’s one levy renewal but it’s combining two expiring emergency levies,” Parma City Schools Superintendent Charles Smialek said. “We currently have emergency 10-year operating levies that would expire in 2024 and 2027.

If passed, the combined 5.9-mill 10-year levy renewal, which currently costs a $100,000 homeowner $206 annually, will begin at the beginning of 2025.“It’s best for us, the Parma City Schools, to appear on a ballot as infrequently as possible,” he said. “It’s our own doing with bond issues. In terms of new money, for the fourth time over the last roughly four years voted down this past spring a Parma City School District strategic consolidation new-money levy at the ballot.

“At this time, really we’re focused on the renewal and any future endeavor to have a new ask is something we’ll go through quite a bit of planning and community engagement with,” he said.
