Police remain on the scene of a barricade situation in Park Ridge that began Thursday night.
Park Ridge police said in a statement that a man was inside a home in the 800-block of Austin Avenue and may be armed. Investigators said they were told the man was threatening his parents and was suicidal. When officers arrived on scene they found the parents had already left the residence and were unharmed, but the son was still in the home. The son, who is an adult, has remained in the home since.
Park Ridge police said they worked throughout the day Friday, along with the department social worker, and learned the son and parents were involved in an ongoing domestic situation. Police also said the call Thursday night to police was made because of a threat the son made over the phone about hurting himself.
Police said they have made contact with the son and were not able to substantiate that claim, but the department has worked with the parents to create a safety plan in regards to the ongoing domestic situatin.Copyright © 2023 WLS-TV. All Rights Reserved.
