Voice of the Families said the council 'couldn't walk a mile in the shoes' of families struggling amid children's services failures
A group of parents are arranging a second protest outside a council meeting next week over children's services in Sefton.
He said many families in the borough had felt "isolated" by their experiences with children's services and through banding together, in WhatsApp groups, social media forums and now in-person meetings, many of the parents in the group had benefited from sharing advice and support. He said that from discussions with other parents of vulnerable, looked after or adopted children, and those with special needs, he has heard "harrowing and heartbreaking" stories of children not being in school for years, parents having to leave work to plug the gaps left by the local authority, other children being removed from courses without parents being consulted, issues around home to school transport provision and court orders, problems with the ongoing churn of social workers,...
Mr Moorhead said that since joining together as a group of now over 230 families drawn from two social media groups that merged to work together, members have been contacting the director of children's services, the commissioner, local MPs and councillors and “anyone who will listen” in a bid to make their views known.
The Sefton mum said: "We're seeing families crumbling all around us as they're not getting the support. It's been so isolating and it doesn't feel like much is changing."
