The parents of a baby who died earlier this year have dedicated a daisy in his memory at Hope House Children’s Hospices.
Dan Crute and Becky Davies have been fundraising for the charity since their 17-month-old son Archie died in March, and are one of the first families to receive the hospice’s new special daisies.
Everyone who dedicates a daisy will be able to leave a special message which will stay with the daisy while is displayed at the hospices throughout August. “Everything was normal for a few months after we brought him home, but after about six months we noticed Archie wasn’t really gaining weight and we started to notice he was a bit slow in his development – like struggling to support his head and being a bit floppy. At that point, we knew there was something not quite right.”
After spending a few weeks in hospital after his diagnosis, Archie and his family were introduced to Hope House. “The rest was incredibly important. With a normal healthy child, you can generally give them to family members and grandparents for a couple of nights to look after, but when your child is poorly and needs medicine regularly and accurately it becomes much trickier. He didn’t need babysitters, he needed nurses 24/7, and that is ultimately what we became.
“He also loved the hydrotherapy pool, the lights and the sound. He was so relaxed. He couldn’t support his own weight, so it fully relaxed him.”
