Now one of the most eagerly anticipated moments in the build up to Christmas, the John Lewis advert usually hits screens in early November. And every year, fans can’t wait to see what the festive storyline is all about, and also which pop song has had a makeover. The advert tells the story of a young boy, Alfie, who buys a seed to grow his own Christmas tree at a market. But he finds instead that he has planted a giant Venus flytrap, which starts to cause mayhem in the family home.
Another compared it to 80s film Little Shop of Horrors, saying: 'It’s very #LittleShopOfHorrors - I loved it.'But not everyone's loving the new ad, which has the tagline #growyourtraditions. Some even suggested Alfie's manners could do with a makeover, with 1 person writing 'The new #johnlewis advert annoyed me immediately when the little boy didn’t say please'.
