Hundreds of origami birds containing the cash will be released today in Manchester city centre
Hundreds of paper birds containing real cash are being flown out across Manchester TODAY. People walking around the city centre are being urged to look out for origami hummingbirds which will be carrying £10 in cash throughout Thursday, October 19.

People in Manchester in particular plan to reduce their spending by nearly a quarter compared to 2022. Overall, 27 per cent of people in Manchester have less than £300 in total to cover all of the costs associated with Christmas, from presents and decorations, to their Christmas tree, food, drink and travel.
Of course, Christmas isn’t just about presents - it is about getting together with family and friends. But tight budgets could also put this under threat, as more than a quarter of Mancunians are planning to avoid having friends or family around in order to save on hosting costs, Top Cashback's research says.
With the cost of living front of mind, nearly six in ten of people in Manchester wish that they had started saving for this year’s Christmas expenditure sooner than they did, the research says. This has led four fifths to say they would consider alternative ways of earning extra money to pay for it this year.
