A Palo Alto man drowned in Lake Tahoe last week after falling out of a boat, the El Dorado County sheriff’s office said.

Emergency responders were called to Meeks Bay, on the lake’s west shore, around 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 5. Two people had reportedly fallen from a boat into the water. One of the victims was able to get to shore on their own. Coast Guard rescuers recovered the other person from about 15 feet of water; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as Theodore Fletcher, 58. The official cause of death was drowning, the sheriff’s office said.
