A complex entity such as Eskom needs an engineer at its helm, not a lawyer
When I arrived at BopStats in Bophuthatswana in 1982 as a statistician cum demographer, my first task was to assess manpower. I was appointed to run a national survey in this regard by the late Dr Bethuel Setai while he was a professor at the National University of Lesotho. The results were interesting and ridiculous. Senior incumbents’ qualifications became the standard for who should occupy top positions.
Many were matriculants who went on to study at Unibo, acquiring qualifications that enabled them to manage and lead better.
