Pakistan defeated South Africa by six wickets in a thrilling Tri-Series match, securing their place in the final. A stunning partnership between Salman Aghar and Mohammad Rizwan propelled Pakistan to victory despite South Africa's impressive total of 352/5.
The Proteas suffered a disappointing six-wicket defeat against Pakistan in their Tri Series match at the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday. Despite posting a formidable 352/5 thanks to Heinrich Klaasen's blistering 87 off 56 balls, Matthew Breetzke's 83 off 84, and Temba Bavuma's steady 82 off 96, Pakistan 's Salman Aghar and Mohammad Rizwan put on a record-breaking partnership.
Aghar smashed 16 fours and two sixes in his 134 off 103 balls, while Rizwan remained unbeaten on 122 off 128, including nine fours and three sixes. Their 260-run fourth wicket stand, the highest for Pakistan and second highest in ODI history, propelled Pakistan to victory. The result means that Pakistan will now face New Zealand in the Tri Series final on Friday, while the Proteas are out of contention having lost both their matches. The Proteas started their innings strongly, with a 51-run opening stand between Bavuma and Tony de Zorzi (22). Breetzke then joined Bavuma and they shared a 119-run partnership, forging past the 100 and 150 marks. Bavuma reached his half-century but was unfortunately run out attempting a single. Breetzke continued his impressive form, reaching his own fifty and pushing towards 80 before being caught by a diving Aghar off Khushdil Shah. Klaasen then took charge in the latter overs, while Kyle Verreynne (44no) and Corbin Bosch (15no) contributed valuable runs to propel the Proteas to a strong total.Pakistan's chase got off to a flying start with Fakhar Zaman (41) and Babar Azam (23) adding 57 runs for the first wicket. However, Wiaan Mulder came into the attack and made a significant impact, taking the first three wickets. He trapped Azam LBW first ball, caught Shakeel off Bosch, and then had Zaman caught behind by Klaasen. Despite this early setback, Pakistan's Aghar and Rizwan took control, building an unstoppable partnership that guided their team to victory.
