Daily News | Paige Bueckers and UConn top Stanford, 63-58, in a Final Four slugfest
MINNEAPOLIS — Paige Bueckers scored 14 points in her Minnesota homecoming at the Final Four, leading Connecticut to a 63-58 upset of defending champion Stanford Friday night.OK, fine, maybe it wasn’t an upset. But it’s safe to say it was a bit of a surprise.
They ended up wrong, and the many UConn fans in the packed crowd of 18,268 at the Target Center ended up thrilled. The Huskies face South Carolina for the championship there at 8 p.m. Sunday. Stanford shot just 11-for-30 from the field in the first 20 minutes; the Huskies shot 12-for-34, and led 27-26 at intermission.
In fact, the answer the Cardinal sought was in the paint, not at the perimeter. Brink also had 12 points through three quarters, and the Huskies struggled to stop her when she had the ball.
