Ha-Seong Kim still hurting after jamming toe kicking water cooler on Friday; Matthew Batter to start in Kim's place

The Padres are without Ha-Seong Kim, at least for the start of Saturday’s game against the Mets.

Their second baseman was having difficulty putting pressure on his right foot a day after kicking a water cooler in frustration following his being thrown out at third base trying to stretch a double into a triple in the seventh inning of the Padres’ 7-5 loss in 10 innings. “He feels better than he did last night,” manager Bob Melvin said Saturday afternoon. “At some point in time they’ll probably get him in the cage and see how he feels. He was having a little trouble walking around, but that was before treatment.”Melvin did not rule out Kim, who was said to have a “jammed” toe after X-rays Friday night did not reveal a fracture, being available to hit in the game.Matthew Batten is starting at second base in place of Kim.
