The slider was Wilson’s most effective pitch as opposing hitters had an expected slugging percentage of .253 off a breaking ball that he threw 42.2 percent of the time.
Wilson, however, lost 2020 to the pandemic, and the injury woes that had dogged him each year — a back in 2020 and an oblique and foot sprain in 2021 — derailed him after three appearances to start the year in what was called Triple-A West for a season. Wilson was making up for lost time in the Dominican winter league when he was added to the 40-man roster in November 2021, broke camp with the big-league team on opening day and spent almost the entire 2022 season in the majors.
