The Padres' Eric Hosmer sits for first time since April 18; Dinelson Lamet joining Double-A San Antonio pitching staff

Hosmer in years past had gotten his days off against left-handed pitching but the Padres haven’t had that luxury of late and Hosmer has thrived against southpaws, hitting .381/.422/.500 with one homer, three walks and six strikeouts in 45 plate appearances.

With Hosmer out of the lineup entirely, Voit will man first base and hit fifth, Jurickson Profar will hit third as the designated hitter, Wil Myers will hit cleanup and play right field and Jose Azocar will play left field as the No. 9 hitter. Myers went 2-for-5 with a two-run double Friday and is hitting .278/.308/.389 with one homer and eight RBIs since coming off the injured list.

Before the game, right-hander Dinelson Lamet departed the team to officially join Double-A San Antonio. The 29-year-old Dominican was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on May 13 but stayed with the team to work with the big-league coaching staff.
