The Padres almost certainly would like to push Morejón back into a rotation in the future, but injuries have barred him from throwing more than 65 1/3 innings in any professional season since signing for $11 million as the crown jewel of the Padres’ 2016-17 international spending spree. Morejón has a 3.71 ERA in 189 1/3 innings in the minors and a 5.14 ERA in 70 innings spread across five big-league seasons.The Padres have a somewhat fresh but short bullpen behind Morejón, one of eight relievers on the roster, althoughlanding on the injured list this week has impacted the pecking order in late and close games.
