Padres trim more infielders, outfielders as they near departure for Korea; Graham Pauley goes nine again, gets two more hits; Robert Suarez takes comebacker off shin
There is no denying the Padres’ bench will be short on major league experience and accomplishments. But whoever makes the team will have done so the old-fashioned way. They will have earned it. The competition for utility spots has been everything the Padres could have hoped.
Additionally, third catcher Brett Sullivan has played infield and outfield in the minor leagues and has gotten work at first base and left field this spring. All of those players can be sent to the minors without clearing waivers, unlike some combatants in the running for spots on the pitching staff. The Padres plan to have their travel roster of 31 players set by Tuesday night, because they depart for the airport after their exhibition here Wednesday.
