Police members intercepted a bus carrying undocumented passengers in Paarl with children found inside a trailer attached to the bus on Saturday morning, 6 July. While officers were busy with patrols at around 5am near the N1 highway, they noticed people 'disembarking from a passenger bus' near the Sonstraal off-ramp.

‘One of the passengers then intervened and offered one of the SAPS members an amount of R50 000 to release the passengers,’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, police spokesperson. Swartbooi told the publication that the SAPS could not disclose the number of people arrested at this stage of the investigation.
