PA refuses Joburg budget citing ANC coalition as worse than DA coalition

The Johannesburg ANC-EFF coalition faces uncertainty as the PA criticizes budget allocations, hinting at potential instability.

In Johannesburg, the Patriotic Alliance has characterized a coalition with the African National Congress and the Economic Freedom Fighters as inferior to one with the Democratic Alliance .During the budget speech debate on Wednesday, PA councillor Lois Simonse criticised the ANC, alleging disrespect.

“In the whole budget, the wards governed by the PA has not received anything…. Kliptown referred to in this budget is situated in Region D while the other parts of Region G remain neglected,” she said., Simonse pointedly reminded both the ANC and the EFF that it was the PA’s support that facilitated their return to power after the collapse of the DA-led multi-party coalition.

“We joined the government because we believed it had a very real potential to bring service delivery transformation and hopefully a way forward for our people who have been taken for granted for decades,” Simonse continued. It remains to be seen whether the PA’s public critique of the GLU would result in the party withdrawing from the coalition.
