Brian Bourquard, 39, will face murder charges in connection with the killing of Shanan Lynn Read.
Brian Bourquard, 39, made a brief appearance in a Philadelphia courtroom Friday morning, the Inquirer said. He had been arrested last week at his home and was jailed on a technical charge to keep him in custody.
Authorities said Read was beaten to death before her body was discarded. Her remains were found in a plastic container in Puget Sound in 2006, the Inquirer reported. Her head washed ashore months later. Authorities are accusing the trio of fatally beating Read with a metal baton inside a Seattle apartment over a debt related to a theft and forgery ring they operated together. The men then put the body into a container, officials said, took it to Bourquard’s family cabin in Port Orchard, stored it there for weeks, doused it with chemicals to speed up decomposition, and eventually pushed the container into the sound.
