One of two flamingos that were living on a pond in Franklin County, Pa., has left while its mate continues to recover at a rescue in Philadelphia.
reported today that the flamingo left the privately-owned pond in St. Thomas Twp., Franklin County, sometime on Wednesday. It was one of two that landed earlier this month after apparently being swept off course by Hurricane Idalia in Florida.by a snapping turtle and taken to Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Lancaster County. That bird, the Public Opinion said, is expected to go to the Philadelphia Zoo once it is recovered.
The center said it is utilizing two childproof mirrors to provide the bird with “comfort and simulation. The Flamingo is responding well to them and is starting to display more natural behaviors. As our team would with any patient in our care, it is important to make them as comfortable as possible and to meet their needs while they are in our care.”
