“This is a very unique situation and a species we have never treated or worked with before. Our first concern was the medical treatments and stabilizing the bird before we updated our supporters.”

“We are currently working with an amazing team that specialize and work with Flamingos on a daily basis. Their support and guidance for the husbandry, foods, handling and normal behavior has been so valuable. We are in contact with the team everyday for questions and medical follow up.”“We would have made arrangements to try and capture the bird, as we thought getting the bird in our facility to be with the other one might help the injured one.

The post goes on to note that the injured flamingo and the one still in the wild have both been “compromised” due to the hurricane blowing them so far out of their normal habitat, far away from their regular sources of food. “We are also working closely with the Pa Game Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for a plan of action moving forward with a migratory bird, that is not native to this area,” the post said. “We continue to try and manage the high quantity of phone calls, emails, Facebook messages, comments as we are also providing quality care for our current and new patients.
