Crown attorney's office has decided not to proceed on a charge alleging that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation violated a court-ordered publication ban.

On Feb. 21 in provincial court in Charlottetown, Crown attorney Lisa Goulden appeared before Judge Nancy Orr and informed the court that the charge against the CBC was being stayed.Initially, CBC P.E.I. journalist Jesara Sinclair was charged with allegedly disobeying the court order with respect to a publication ban, but her matter was stayed by the Crown on Jan. 16.

The charge against Sinclair was filed with the court on Dec. 6. In a Dec. 7 press release, the P.E.I. RCMP, who laid the charge, didn't identify the article that allegedly violated the publication ban.At that Jan. 16 court appearance, a replacement information against the CBC was called in court. The CBC's lawyer David Coles requested an adjournment to February so the sides could have discussions about a resolution.

The publication ban offence was alleged to have occurred with respect to an article published by the CBC on Nov. 8. The publication ban was ordered by Orr on June 20 in provincial court.
