Boost your MacBook's performance with a Thunderbolt enclosure like OWC's Envoy Express.
These days, all Apple Macs come with Thunderbolt ports, but how many of us fully use these high-speed connectors? I’d wager that most people use them as USB-C ports and not much else. Perhaps one reason for the lack of usage is the price of external Thunderbolt drives. A good drive costs a lot of money. The Envoy Express is a well-made metal housing with a sliding plastic caddy with an adhesive surface for sticking it to the lid of your MacBook. Remember that this is a Thunderbolt 3 enclosure; it won’t work with older USB-C non-Thunderbolt ports. If you’ve never used a Thunderbolt drive before, you’re in for a real treat when you plug the OWC Envoy Express into your Mac or PC. It’s super-fast for the money and wipes the floor with USB drives. You could always install a faster SSD if necessary as the interface has some speed headroom for accommodating higher-performance SSDs.nonetheless.
So, why might you want a Thunderbolt drive? If you produce a lot of video footage, process many audio files, or have an extensive photo library, then the speed offered by Thunderbolt makes a lot of sense. With the faster speeds, you can even edit video directly on the drive instead of transferring it to the boot SSD of your Mac. The OWC Envoy Express can also take much larger capacity SSDs which will be released in the future and hopefully will come down in price.
