Scott Morrison said many leaders had sought him out to ask about the search for the Perth student.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has spoken to the family of Alek Sigley about the Perth student's disappearance in North Korea amid a growing effort to get other nations to help Australia ensure his safety.

Speaking after the summit ended, Mr Morrison said the priority was to find where Mr Sigley was and ensure he was well, which meant he had to be "measured" with his words. Mr Morrison raised the matter with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and also spoke to US President Donald Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Mr Trump is heading to South Korea on Sunday, and tweeted an invitation to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to meet him at the border, but Mr Morrison was cautious about whether that could be an opportunity to raise Mr Sigley’s situation."All I would say is we're going to work with everybody to secure Alek's safety, and the best way we can do that is doing it quietly, effectively, working with our partners," he said.
