Blizzard is shaking up Overwatch 2 with a major update that includes a new hero perk system, a round-based game mode called 'Stadium', and the return of loot boxes.
Blizzard has announced a major overhaul for Overwatch 2 , set to launch in February 2024. This update, dubbed Season 15: Honor and Glory, introduces a groundbreaking system of hero perks that are unlocked and customized during matches. Every hero will have two sets of perks, allowing players to tailor their abilities and playstyles throughout a match. Players earn experience through kills, damage, and objective play, unlocking perks at level two and three.
These perks offer a wide range of impactful modifications, from enhancing existing abilities to granting entirely new ones. For example, Genji's Swift Strike will deal additional damage after an elimination, while Orisa can gain a boost to her barrier strength. The introduction of hero perks is just the tip of the iceberg. Overwatch 2 is also getting a new game mode called 'Stadium', which features round-based gameplay with upgrades and build crafting. Additionally, a new hero, Freja, a Danish bounty hunter with an explosive crossbow, is on the way. Finally, the return of loot boxes and a 6v6 competitive queue are planned for later in the year. These changes represent the most significant shakeup to Overwatch 2 since its launch, promising to drastically alter the gameplay experience for both new and veteran players.
