King Thulare Victor Thulare III, who was last month officially recognised as the rightful leader of the Bapedi by government, on Friday received his long awaited recognition certificate
The legitimising of Thulare followed a Constitutional Court judgment on March 4 that ended a legal battle which has ragged for more than 40 years.
Part of the act reads: ‘‘The president must, on the recommendation of the minister and subject to subsection 3, recognise a person so identified in terms of paragraph as king or queen.” The king’s words come at the back of a long legal and royal brawl for the Bapedi kingship between Thulare and his uncle, the then acting king Kgagudi Kenneth Sekhukhune.
