THUNDER BAY — OPP and the Canadian Coast Guard were called out Tuesday evening to help search for a kayaker reported overdue from a paddle on Lake Superior.

Police initiated the search in the Mackenzie Beach area east of the city at about 7 p.m., but said the individual was found a short time later by local boaters. According to a coast guard spokesperson, a search and rescue crew from Thunder Bay located and picked up the kayaker. A witness told Dougall Media the man was brought to shore shortly before 9 p.m., and that he appeared to be alright except for suffering from cold exposure. Superior North EMS paramedics arrived on the scene to assess him.
