Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins declared a disaster after severe storm damage.

Polling locations in Dallas and Collin County are closed and one location in Denton county was moved Tuesday following severe storms.COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — Severe storms led to power outages, damage to buildings and flooding on Election Day causing over a hundred polling locations to lose power and creating delays at others.

Tuesday, May 28 is Election Day for the 2024 primary runoff elections. A runoff election is triggered when no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in an election. This upcoming runoff follows the Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins announced Tuesday that 103 polling locations are without power as of 11:50 a.m. about 180 locations are open and operating as normal, Jenkins said. Dallas County utilizes vote centers, which means voters can vote at any polling location regardless of their address.

Two Tarrant County polling locations, St John Baptist Church in Euless and Blue Mound Community Center in Blue Mound, lost power during the storm but are currently operating as normal using backup generators, officials said. Voters will have an extra hour to cast their ballot in Kaufman County. Officials there announced polling places would close at 8 p.m. rather than 7 p.m.
