The Carolina Hurricanes’ Andrei Svechnikov just learned that the hard way.
Svechnikov, the Hurricanes’ 2nd-overall selection in the 2018 entry draft, fought fellow Russian Alex Ovechkin in the first period of Monday’s Game 3 in Carolina — and took the worst of it. Ovechkin, the playoff-hardened Stanley Cup champion of a year ago, appeared to knock Svechnikov out with a series of right hands. The 19-year-old rookie then fell and hit the back of his head on the ice.— Bleacher Report April 16, 2019Svechnikov struggled to get to his feet after the fight and was helped off the ice by Hurricanes staff. Both players were assessed 5-minute major penalties for the fight.
Ovechkin, 33, has only fought three times in his NHL career, with the last bout coming against the New York Rangers’ Brandon Dubinski in 2010.DECEMBER 12 2010 vs. #NYR Brandon Dubinsky pic.twitter.com/UMsJKaLese — Kotkaniminti April 16, 2019The Capitals leads the best-of-seven first round series 2-0, though the Hurricanes are currently winning Game 3.
