The BC General Employees’ Union has issued a 72-hour strike notice, meaning tens of thousands of employees in various public sector jobs will be in a position to strike come Monday afternoon.
The union says its most recent collective agreement with B.C.’s Public Service Agency expired on April 1, after negotiations for a new collective agreement started on February 8. Earlier this week, the PSA invited the union back to the bargaining table, and while exploratory discussions were held, the bargaining committee unanimously decided a return to the table would not be fruitful at this time.
