Police made two “proactive” visits to the former Catholic church, first on July 15 and again on Sunday, to speak with directors of The United People of Canada , a group that has been met with unease from some community members over perceived links to the “Freedom Convoy.”
Members of the public have raised concerns over connections between TUPOC’s backers and the “Freedom Convoy” protest. The group’s directors include William Komer, Diane Nolan and Kimberley Ward.ttawa for the protest because, “as a documentary filmmaker, I was covering what was going on there from an investigative perspective.”

William Komer, a member of the organization’s board of directors, sits inside the church.Now, Komer has confirmed in a phone interview the group is commissioning a “sizeable” security force in response to what he said have been incidents of theft, vandalism and death threats.
“There’s not been a satisfactory response and that’s been a primary consideration in developing the sizeable private security force,” he said. “The affiliation has augmented the concern in the community and many people are worried,” Bigras said. “Lowertown is already a fragile neighbourhood.”
