Ottawa police cite some good reasons NOT to call 911 emergency line

The Ottawa Police Service handled 667,000 calls for service in 2021, another reason not to tie up a 911 agent with a non\u002Demergency call.

When the 911 service dispatcher asked the youngster to go get a parent, she replied that she wasn’t allowed to go outside while her father was mowing the lawn.

• Another caller dialed 911 and asked that a barista be arrested for putting sugar in their coffee. They felt it had been done maliciously. “We want to emphasize to the public that we will always be there for you if you are in crisis and need help from police, when in doubt always give us a call,” Communications Insp. Russell Lucas said in the media release. “But we also ask residents to use common sense when making a call to 911.”
