Richard Ofori has not gone to the World Cup due to injury and it has meant Orlando Pirates miss out on moneyRichard Ofori’s untimely injury on the brink of the Qatar World Cup leading to his subsequent omission from Ghana’s World Cup squad is set to cost Orlando Pirates millions of rands.
FIFA pays an allowance to every club with a player at the World Cup for every day that the player remains with his national team at the tournament through the Club Benefits Programme.– which is the amount paid if Ghana come stuck in the group stages. At the last World Cup in Russia, Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was the only PSL player and his club Chippa United was paid about USD23700 even though he didn’t play with the Super Eagles going out in the first round.
"It is unfortunate for Ofori that he has had to miss the World Cup and I feel for him but then this is football," says fellow countryman and former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Mumuni Abubakar.
