Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Joseph Makhanya has defended coach Mandla Ncikazi's outburst in Tanzania.
The Buccaneers co-coach was left furious by what he called unsporting behaviour by Tanzanian side Simba in their CAF Confederation Cup game last weekend, where they lost by 1-0. Ncikazi went on to address what he deemed as unprofessional and intimidating behaviour from the opposition, accusing Simba of not properly hosting the visiting side.Bucs legend Makhanya has applauded the coach as he feels African teams preach fair play but cannot really put it into practice.
"'The comments by coach Mandla Ncikazi were spot on. It is about time African teams practice fair play that people preach about. We talk about it, but only few do it. The treatment in other countries is not up to standard/ This thing has been happening for years, even during our playing days, and it kills players' spirits," Makhanya told the Siya crew."Coach had to stand up, not only for Orlando Pirates, but for others who cannot speak for themselves.
"Intimidation should never be normal, we shouldn't be okay with such treatment because the image of our football will never improve. If we want to be like other continents, we must behave in a professional manner on and off the field."
