CLEVELAND, Ohio – Karrie Howard, Cleveland’s public safety director, was stopped by an Orange Village police officer at 12:38 a.m. Wednesday in a city car, according to interviews and court records.

“His being out doing this is neither new nor odd,” the city said in a statement Friday. “He has the utmost respect for law enforcement and the strongest desire to resolve issues raised by city citizens.” Howard, 47, of South Euclid, can appear in Orange Village Mayor’s Court on Sept. 10 or simply pay the fine and any costs.
